The 2010 FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) World Cup is finally open! The 19th FIFA World Cup, which was hosted by South Africa and co-host by Libya and Tunisia, will run from this day, June 11, to July 11, 2010. It is the first time that the World Cup is hosted by African nation.

Thrity-two teams (South Africa, Mexico, Uruguay, France, Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea, Greece, England, United States, Algeria, Slovenia, Germany, Australia, Serbia, Ghana, Netherlands, Denmark, Japan, Cameroon, Italy, Paraguay, Slovakia, New Zealand, Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Honduras, and Chile) from six confederations (AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, and UEFA) are going to compete for the FIFA World Cup finals. These teams were divided into eight groups which were drawn by AC Milan star player David Beckham, South African football defender Matthew Booth, Simphiwe Dludlu, Ethiopian long-distance track and road running athlete Haile Gebreselassie, current captain of Springboks John Smit, and Makhaya Ntini, the South African cricketer and first black player of South African team. The Italian national football team is the current World Champions, having won the 2006 FIFA World Cup. They are in Group F along with Paraguay, New Zealand, and Slovakia.

FIFA World Cup 2010 will be held in 10 venues: Soccer City Stadium and Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg, Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein, Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town, Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, and Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
