53 teams will compete for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualification in European zone. These teams will compete until they reached the final 13. The European zone is consist of nine (9) groups. Eight groups are composed of 6 teams and 1 group are composed of only five teams. The winners in each group will qualify while the eight base second-placed will compete for the home and away playoff matches until four of them were left. Right after the 2008 UEFA Euro competition, on August 20, 2009, 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification begun. Teams in group stage (Group 1-9) were drawn last November 25, 2007 in Durban, South Africa.

As of today, England are the highest scoring team with 26 goals. England is followed by Germany with 20 goals and the third highest scoring teams are Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina with both 18 goals.
