BATTLE OF THE PSYCHICS: PAUL THE OCTOPUS VS MANI THE PARAKEET
Paul the Octopus, popularly known as “Oracle of Oberhausen” in Germany or “El Pulpo Paul” in Spain, predicted that Spain will win their first ever World Cup title on Sunday at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg. This “psychic” octopus accurately predicted the outcomes of six German matches in the World Cup tournament. Because he has never been wrong in his predictions, he received huge requests to predict the outcome between Spain and Netherlands.
The 2 1/2 year old psychic makes his predictions by choosing between one of two mussel-baited transparent cubes bearing the national flags of the teams in his tank. He makes his choice by opening the lid and the container that he chooses first, indicates the winner in the upcoming game.
Spain are very happy with Paul’s prediction that Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero wanted to send a team to protect him. Meanwhile, the Dutch are not impressed with the octopus’ prediction. For sure, they’ll do their very best to prove that the octopus is wrong.
If Paul predicted that Spain will win in the final tournament, Mani believes that he’s wrong. Mani, the 13-year old parakeet who belongs to an 80-year old Fortune Teller, predicted that Netherlands will win this year’s World Cup title.
The psychic parakeet accurately forecast the World Cup’s four quarterfinal games and Spain’s semifinal victory over Germany.
