Germany make just one change in their lineup. Since VfB Stuttgart Cacau was out due to abdominal muscle strain he sustained during training on Friday (June 25), Miroslav Klose comes in for him. That’s the only change but coach Joachim Low didn’t regret of putting Klose in the starting lineup. Klose scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute. It was a superb goal that reminded England that they were the top team in Group D.
FC Cologne forward Lukas Podolski added another goal in the 32nd minute giving Germany a two-point lead. England was struggling in the field trying to take a shot and finally in the 37th minute, five minutes after Podolski’s goal, West Ham United defender Matthew Upson scored putting the lead back to one.
England had a poor defense in the first half and it continued in the second half. Bayern Munich midfielder Thomas Muller scored in the 67th minute. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard hits the wall then Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger feeds Muller and David James dives out of the way. With Muller’s goal, the lead went back to two. With 23 minutes left in the game, it will be very difficult for England to change their play but they still have a slim chance to equalized the game.
Muller took another goal in the 70th minute from Werder Bremen Mesut Ozil’s superb pass. Muller leaves England hopeless after giving Germany a three point lead.
England’s long journey is finally over. Their World Cup dream has ended. By the way, where is Wayne Rooney?
KLOSE, PODOLSKI, MULLER – SAME MEN WHO BURIED AUSTRALIA, 4-0
Did you notice that the scorers who lifts Germany to the quarterfinal round are the same persons who buried Australia during their World Cup opener? And also same series – Klose, Podolski, and Muller. The only difference is that Muller took two goals in their game against England while Cacau took the fourth goal in their game against Australia.
