Hamburger striker Paolo Guerrero was banned yesterday, April 8, 2010, for five matches for throwing a bottled water at a fan after his side’s scoreless draw against Hannover on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. Since there are only five rounds remaining in Bundesliga, the ban will end Guerrero’s domestic season.
The incident happened during Easter Sunday’s game against Hamburg when players are leaving the field while the fans jeered at them. Guerrero, who only just returned from a ruptured cruciate knee ligament, was pissed off and was unable to control his feelings. He threw a bottled water and hit the fan on the shoulder.
Guerrero admitted that he threw the bottle and he said that he was just insulted by the mockery. He also said that his mind goes totally blank that he overreacted. He also said that if he has the chance to meet the fan in person, he will apologize.
“I apologize to all I have done harm. This is the first time something like that has happened to me.”

Guerrero have already apologized to Hamburg and HSV have pledged they’ll do everything they can in order to help him overturn his ban.
Aside from the five-match suspension, Guerrero has been handed a hefty fine by his club between €50,000 and €100,000. The said fine will be donated to his chosen charity. Aside from that, the German football federation fined the 26-year old Peruvian striker €20,000 ($26,700).
