Barcelona advance to the semifinal round of UEFA Champions League after defeating Arsenal on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Barca dumped the Gunners out of Europe, 4-1, and it’s their third straight year in the semis.
The Argentine striker Lionel Messi is the hero of the game scoring all 4 goals. That was absolutely impressive! Messi is the current top scorer in the Champions Lague with eight goals and the first player to score four goals in a two-legged series.
Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner was the first scorer in the game. It was a good start for Arsenal but Messi stole the spotlight giving his team the first goal at 21 minutes in the game, just two minutes after Bendtner’s goal. He took advantage of a misplayed ball by Mikael Silvestre and tied the score at 1-1. He scored again in the 37th by capping a smart buildup with a shot into the top of goal and three minutes before halftime, he ensured a hat trick by scooping over goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, putting his team on the lead with 2 points.

Arsenal find it hard to score even on the second half. After drawing the quarter-final first leg 2-2 at the Emirates, the Gunners were unable to ruin Barca’s tight defense. Messi scored in the 88th minute securing Barca’s victory over Arsenal.
