Bayern Munich striker Miroslav Klose will not play for Germany in the World Cup match for the third place against Uruguay on Saturday due to injury. Klose has back injury sustained during their semifinal match against Spain.
Klose has a total of 14 goals in World Cup that puts him joint second along with former Bayern Munich striker and currently the club’s assistant manager Gerhard Muller on the list of FIFA World Cup all-time goalscorers. Four of these goals were from this year’s tournament: Klose scored in their opening game against Australia, one goal in their knock out game against England, and two goals in the quarterfinal game against Argentina.
Germany players, Klose and Muller, were just one goal behind the Brazilian striker, Ronaldo. Ronaldo, who currently plays for Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, is the highest goalscorer in the history of the World Cup. Klose just needs one goal to match or two or more goals to surpass Ronaldo’s record on Saturday but may not happen this year due to his injury.
Germany’s assistant coach Hansi Flick said that Klose is not only their problem but also Werder Bremen Mesut Ozil and VfB Stuttgart midfielder Sami Khedira. Flick declined to give further details regarding Khedira and Ozil’s concerns.
