Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes, who has recently signed a new one-year contract extension with United, lifted the team to victory and boosted Manchester United’s Premier League title chances after scoring a late goal, 1-0, in their away game against Manchester City.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson celebrates at the final whistle and hailed Scholes for keeping United’s Premier League title hopes alive. Scholes headed home a cross from left-back Patrice Evra in the third minute of injury time. United currently has 24 wins, 4 draws, 7 losses and a total of 76 points.
It was a scoreless game in the first half. United winger Antonio Valencia was doing great at the first half setting up midfielder Ryan Giggs with a fine low cross but the ball goes straight to City’s goalkeeper Shay Given. City forward Carlos Tevez curled a fine free-kick against his former club but goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar made a fine save.
City boss Roberto Mancini was very angry and disappointed with the results. He said that he is very disppointed to lose but they have to stay positive because there are still four games remaining.
United is just one-point behind Chelsea. If Chelsea will win against Tottenham Hotspur, then they can stay four points clear of second-place United. But it’s not going to be an easy game. Harry Redknapp’s squad needs a place for the Champions League and for sure it will be a tough game for the Blues.
