MEIRELES, LIEDSON, TIAGO, ALMEIDA, SIMAO, AND CRISTIANO RONALDO GOALS CRUSHED NORTH KOREA’S DEFENSE
Portugal is a scoring machine in their game against Korea DPR earlier today at the Nelson Mandela stadium (View Portugal vs North Korea). A total of 63, 644 people attended the said match. The crowd was throughly entertained as Portugal scored 7 goals: 1 goal in the first half and 6 goals in the second half, which makes them as the first team to get the highest number of goals earned in the 2010 World Cup.
FC Porto midfielder Raul Meireles is the first scorer in the game. He scored in the 28th minute by a perfect pass from Tiago into the right channel. No one expected that Portugal will score a flurry of goals in the second half. Meireles put a good pass into the path of Atletico Madrid winger Simão Sabrosa who sidefooted it under goalkeeper Ri Myong-Guk. Werder Bremen center forward Hugo Almeida scored in the 54th minute making it a 3-point lead. Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago Mendes scored in the 60th minute followed by Sporting Clube de Portugal striker Liedson in the 81st minute. Six minutes after Liedson’s goal, Real Madrid star player Cristiano Ronaldo joined the club giving Portugal a 6-point lead. Everyone thought it will be the last goal in the game but Tiago scored another goal in the 87th minute.
It seems that Portugal have fully controlled the game in the second half. Ji Yun-Nam’s goal against Brazil seems to have no effect in Portugal’s performance. They were not threatened by the emerging Koreans and their 7-0 game only showed that they are not a one-man team.
