Andrew Gregory Dalton or known as Andy Dalton, 5th-year senior and No. 14 quarterback of Texas Christian University Horned Frogs, was awarded the 2011 Rose Bowl Offensive MVP while his teammate, No. 43 junior linebacker Tank Carder received the 2011 Rose Bowl Defensive MVP trophy after TCU’s victory over Wisconsin.
After leading the TCU to victory on Sunday’s bowl, Dalton’s Rose Bowl Offensive MVP, is his fifth award he received in his college football career (Dalton’s awards: 2007 Texas Bowl MVP, 2008 Poinsettia Bowl MVP, and 2009-2010 MWC Offensive Player). He has completed 194 of 293 passes for 2,638 yards for 26 TDs during his senior season.
Though third-ranked TCU weren’t able to score in the second quarter and fourth quarter, but their 4 points lead in the first and 7 points lead in the third quarter lifted them up. Dalton’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Bart Johnson in the first quarter started it all! It was followed by 4-yard touchdown scamper to the left pylon with 36 seconds left in the said quarter. He has completed 15 of 23 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown.
In an interview made by NBC Dalton said,
“We weren’t just playing for TCU. We were playing for all the non-AQ schools out there. It’s something we’ve worked so hard for, and to see all the hard work pay off and play an outstanding game against a great opponent in Wisconsin, we’re thrilled with the victory.”

Aside from Dalton, linebacker Tank Carder contributed to the the TCU’s victory. Carder’s two sacks and game-winning pass breakup earned him the 2011 Rose Bowl’s defensive MVP award. Carder, 2010 MWC defensive player, made the game winning play. Head coach Gary Patterson said that Carder’s defensive strategies and tactics in the final quarter sealed their victory.
Over 94,000 people attendees witnessed the tight battle between TCU Horned Frogs and Wisconsin Badgers. TCU defeated Wisconsin, 21-19, in their first appearance in the Rose Bowl. This marked the 4th time the Badgers lose in the said bowl.
