Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer recently announced that six of their players will not play for the Orange Bowl 2011 because of violating team rules. These players were sent home on Saturday, a day after he announced that safety Antone Exum and running back David Wilson would miss the first quarter of their game against Stanford Cardinal.
Wilson and Exum were not allowed to play in the first quarter of Discover Orange Bowl this Monday night after violating curfew rules on New Year’s Eve. Aside from that coach Beamer said that they will also take their travel money as a punishment. Although they’re in the hotel, Wilson and Exum were not in their rooms at 1 a.m. Hokies cornerback Rashad Carmichael will replace Wilson and will also include Ryan Williams. Williams has just recovered from hamstring problem which he got in a post-practice conditioning drills in December 18, 2010 in Blacksburg, but as what coach Beamer said he saw some postiive progress in their practice session yesterday.
Meanwhile, coach Beamer will not give any further information regarding what rules were broken by those six players but they did nothing serious. He will not also mention their name but he just want to make it clear that those players who will take a bus back to Blacksburg do not have a major role in their game.
