After the devastating defeat against Chelsea on Saturday, Manchester United tried to stay on focus in their Champions League game against the German club, Bayern Munich this Wedensday, April 7, 2010. Sunday Mirror reported on Sunday that United striker Wayne Rooney will play against Bayern. United needs him in this very important game and they can’t afford to lose in the quarterfinal round. United found out that the team is weak if Rooney is out. Dimitar Berbatov was given a chance to shine on Saturday clash against Chelsea but he blew it. Though he’s not to blame, Berbatov alone can’t help the team to win.
Yesterday, United boss Alex Ferguson denied the speculations that Rooney could make a surprise return after being ruled out for about two weeks. He announced that Rooney is not fit to play for the Champions League quarter-final, second leg against Bayern. He said that the medical team have done a good job but Rooney is still not 100% fit for the match. He doesn’t want to take the risk and put the striker on the field even though the striker still feels the pain in his injured ankle. He also confirmed that Rooney did not take part of the training session.

Ferguson said that Rooney is a football player with terrific talent. He also added that Rooney always did a fantastic job whenever he’s inside the field. The team will just have to wait until he’s fine and they are expecting that Rooney will return on their game against Manchester City on April 17.
